how old do you have to be in Kentucky to have your tubes tied? Im only 20 years old but this is my 3 rd pregnancy and will be my 2nd living child. I have a 2 year old and im 28 weeks pregnant and my husband and I have both decided we definately don't want anymore children, main reason being we can't financially afford to take care of any more other than the 2 we will have. My question is how old do you have to be, and if you arent old enough what do you think is the best form of birth control until you are old enough, and why do they make you be so old to do this? I think 20 year olds with 2 kids is plenty and should have the right to get the procedure done if they want to regardless of age, as long as you are over 18 is should be the persons choice.

Hello fellow Kentuckian!
You have to be 21 years old to get your tubes tied. You do not have to be married like some people are saying on here.
I was going to get my tubes tied at age 21 when i had my son but backed out because he was born early.
They were going to tie them though because i had done signed the papers and i was not married at the time when i had our son.
Get on the depo shot, i think it is the best birth control method out there.
It does not matter either if you have just one kid they will tie your tubes because they did my sister and they were going to me had i not backed out.
Take it from me, i live in kentucky -have my whole life so i know this to be true that you do have to be 21 years old and you have to sign that paper to have them tied 30 days before the surgery.
I had my son at the university of kentucky hospital in lexington and they were going to tie my tubes there so any county will at the age of 21.
All you have to do is call any doctor and ask but the age is 21.
Good luck!

I think whether you can get a tubal ligation or not is up to your doctor. Normally, they don't like doing one on a woman only 20 years old, unless there is a medical reason. I think because the woman might change her mind later. Using birth control pills is probably the most effective and safest method of birth control for someone your age. Best of luck!

I totally agree with you that you should have the choice to if that's what you're wanting. I don't know about Kentucky but a lot of places it is 21 and even then they won't always do it. You could try an IUD it is very effective and it's implanted inside you so you don't have to remember a pill everyday or anything. Good for you for knowing what you want and being responsible.

unfortunately, age does not always play a factor in your decision...the doctors' own feelings play a major role no matter where you go...
some ob/gyns will not do a BTL/B for someone as young as you because "you could change your mind, you are too yound to be thinking about something like this, what happens if your hubby dies and your new hubby wants to have kids"....yadda yadda yadda....
so you might want one and need one, but getting one may be close to impossible...
best form of birth control is no sex at all (i am not trying to be funny), but if you cannot abstain, then do the condoms...birth control pills have too many potential side effects...
good luck

It works both ways, he can get snipped, it would probably be the safer of the 2 options.Check with your OBGYN for more information on it.

You should tell your doctor your decision. And if you are married, and your husband agrees, there should be no problem. They can do the operation right after you deliver the baby. That's what they did in my case.
