It's really best to be in a class environment where you can work with others, and learn from critiques. Acting is not a solitary art.

Acting isn't something anyone can just pick up in a day. Many people are naturally good at acting without ever stepping on stage or on screen and they have a talent that really just goes to waste. But to be a successful actor, you should have experience or you simply won't know what to do. A lot of acting just depends on the response, and you can't properly do that by yourself. You need to be in an environment that you can fully express yourself to be a good actor. You need to study, study, study.

You have to have confidence when you audition. If you don't believe in yourself, no one else in the room will and you won't get the part. Simple as that. You got to make them believe you ARE the person you are auditioning for, cold read or not. Cold reads are exciting to me; they are somewhat challenging and let me show all of my skill. When you get the monologue, go into a corner or quiet place and just invision yourself in this lifestyle of theirs: their clothing, their accent, their opinions, what they like and dislike, what they eat, etc.

The first few times you have auditions and cold reads are the toughest. You aren't sure what to expect still and everything is still new to you. After a while auditioning for parts is just second nature. As a good actor, you will basically become a chameleon.

Hope this was at least a bit of help to you.
Good luck!

You can study acting by yourself, yes, but...

Without the benefit of a TRAINED eye (a teacher, a coach, a director, etc.), you really can't know how effective your work is. Looking in a mirror isn't the same thing, and videotape is extremely deceptive.

Besides, actors do their work publicly; you need to work in front of other people as part of your training.

If you want to make an omlette you've got to break some eggs. No choice but to take classes. If you want to work on your own you can do monologues, but you really need to be in a class.

your best friend will be a mirror. and you can also learn by practicing with friends. but making sure that someone can really help you is important. try with a group of people who have experience in acting. that will be the most beneficial thing you can do to further your acting skills.

You need acting classes. On your resume you will have indicate where you studied acting.
