f(3) just means that you let x = 3 and substitute into your equation in place of x.

f(3) = (3)^3 - (3) + 6 = 27 - 3 + 6 = 24 + 6 = 30

Good luck!

Here goes. First, use the carat to show the power. Your equation then becomes
f(x) = x^3 -x + 6 Cool!
The notation f(3) means that you are to supply the numerical value of the function when x= 3.
So toss 3 in for x and you get 27 -3+6 or 30.

All they are asking you to do is substitute 3 for x and evaluate the expression.

So f(3) = 3^3 - 3 + 6
= 27 - 3 + 6
= 30

This is really simple. When you have f()...anything that is inside the () brackets gets put into the equation where ever you see an X.

Therefore 3^3 - 3 + 6.
27 - 3+6 = 30

all you have to do is substitute 3 in for x

so your equation becomes y = 3^3 - 3 + 6
y = 27 - 3 + 6
y = 30 or f(3) = 30

Let us say that the statement says to find out on your own that f(3) is in abbreviated form for the topic that x=3
3^3-3+6=27-3+6=30.

So, f(3) just means you put 3 in where ever x is, so the new equation would be 3^3-3+6.

you can put the x above the three by going x^3. find the value of f(3) means what does the equation equal when x=3. you can find it by sibstituting in 3 where there is an x and then solve.
