Tetanus, aka lockjaw
It is a serious, potentially fatal infection.
When was your last tetanus shot? More than 5 years (for dirty injury) or more than 10 years (for any injury and even if you didn't get injured you should have it)
BTW, you can get tetanus from any cut or puncture, not only from the rusty nail.
Bottom line...if you need a tetanus booster, go get one
Soak the foot in soapy water, let it bleed a little, watch for infection

You need to get a tetanus shot if you have not had one in 5-10 years. The disease you ar trying to prevent is tetanus, also known as "lock jaw". You also want to watch the wound closely for infection. The shot will not preven t that, it only prevents a systemic disease called tetanus that can be pick ed from the dirty rusty nail. Check with your doctor, and if you are unsure of last shot, and they don't have records, they will give you one.

besides normal infection which make sure you clean the wound well you could get other such worse complications as lock jaw watch out for symptoms of nasuea, muscule cramping swelling in the foot area puss drainage fever etc. If you have any theese symptoms notify your DR immediatley other than that keep it clean hope that answers your question

Not just your foot would be affected if you contracted tetanus. Tetanus is a grave condition, so easy to prevent with the shot.

Your foot could get infected really bad and the infection if left untreated would mean you get lockjaw which literally means your mouth can't move and you could die. Get the shot.
