I love my name, and its a very well loved name in the middle east, but obviously I live in America and Im getting tired of having to correct people all the time.

i like it but understand what you mean. my mothers name is Pina. its italian, and im sure you can imagine growing up with a name sounding so close to a male sexual organ is hard. If i were you I would do whatever feels true to you. it sounds like you love it. so with people close to you, roomates, boyfriends adn whatever keep anam. But when ordering pizza and they ask you for a name, lifes too short to be correcting people who dont really care anyway. so say anna/annie to these people. For example, drunk frat boy- hi my name is annie, cute potential guy you see in the library - hi im Anam. Its sounds original, and ordinary is boring! but screw the people who you will have limited contact with

Use the name you were given at birth. It is a beautiful name, and I'm sure you are a beautiful person. People never get my name right, and I'm glad to have a name that isn't like everyone else's. I understand what you mean about your name being accepted, but go with your birth name. It's great to be different and your name magnifies your originality. If people can't accept your name, then there's not accepting you. Stick with your name--either people get it right or they don't...

If you started telling people your name is Anna, they would probably think you said Anam.

Stick with your real name; it'll be worth correcting all those people. When you go to college, you'll meet so many new people that it might be overwhelming. Having a unique name helps others remember you better and is a great conversation starter.

I think your name is beautiful, I wouldnt change it, it makes you unique, you'll have to pronounce it the first time u meet people, and tell them they can call you ann if they just cant get it but, theres so many people w the same name that its wonderful to be different :) Enjoy college

I have the same problem. I am always correcting people when they attempt to say my name. However, eventually people will learn how to say your name and that's better than changing your name. Plus, you can change the spelling to Annum. That should help people to pronounce it right.

Your name is cute and quirky. I love it nbut if you feel more comfortable using a nickname, feel free.

Oh by the way to the racist guy who answered above, you need to get a life, seriously.

The American ear won't easily accept your given name. Annie is much more friendly sounding. Anna sounds cool and reserved.

If it bothers you too much to keep on correcting other people how to say your name right, you can think of another name people can easily call you by.

Else, your name is as good as anyone else's.
