Well, from a pure sience fiction perspective humanity may be anywhere you can just imagine. But from a pure biblical perspective humanity will face two different destinies. Those that reject Gods love and mercy will have to die, but those trusting in him will be taken to some other place in the universe for thousand years. Why, Jesus said that he was going to leave this earth to prepare mansions for his followers somewhere else. After the thousand years the God fearing part of humanity will come back to this earth. But after 500 hundred years, as the question says, these people will still be in what is sometimes called Heaven.
