Please list your top ten thinkers in Western civilization from the fields of philosophy, theology, science, history, economics, etc.

I would have to say Plato and Aristotel, Jesus, Gutenberg, Rousseu, Marx and Martin Luther King. But thats just my opinion:P

That's easy .. Native Americans have always been philosophers with a deep awareness of all things spiritual.
Their contributions to medicine are just now being explored and appreciated. The economic picture of extreme poverty and fabulous wealth of North American tribes would be a prime Masters thesis topic.

Frank Fools Crow, Teton Sioux, would have been awarded a Nobel Peace Prize, had he been anything other than Native American.

Chief Joseph, Nez Pierce, best known for his resistance to the U.S. Government's attempts to force his tribe onto reservations (rather like a one-man ACLU).

Cochise, Apache, was a man of great power and used it to benefit others. A modern contemporary might be Gandhi.

Chief Luther Standing Bear, Lakota, had a philosophy comparable to Mother Teresa or Pope John Paul;

Sequoyah, inventor of the Cherokee syllabary (can you think of another individual responsible for an entire nation's written language? I cannot.)

Contemporary Native Americans like Wilma Mankiller, the first female in modern history to lead a major Native American tribe (Cherokee), and Ben Nighthorse Campbell, US Senator from Colorado.
