That's a great achievement! I don't think I have achieved anything like that- so far. There are little achievements that I have accomplished.. but I don't think my major 'key defining moment' has come yet. Some of the things I am proud about are: winning a writing/reading award, graduating HS with honors, and soon to graduate college with honors.

Wow, you did that? I am impressed!

You do deserve credit and that should be a defining moment. I moved a lot when I was a kid. My parents had some emotional difficulties and I was pretty lost as a kid. I remembered always being the new kid, but more than that, I am very sensitive emotionally...which led to a lot of teasing. I don't think I've ever gotten over it, and it took a huge chunk out of my self esteem. I continue to deal with the issues I had as a kid. It was a very crude awakening to life, imo. I completely applaud you for taking a stand on this. Humanity depends on people like you to stand up for a higher expectation of how we should treat one another. I could go on forever with how important this is. If children learn compassion we could certainly make the world a much better place.

Now, for your question. When I was a teen a friend's parent posed the question of what her daughter and I were doing for the betterment of society. As teens, we were totally self-absorbed and on the wrong path...

We decided to get jobs as nursing assistants in a care center. I began to see life in a whole new light, it grounded me completely. Now, I am a nurse, and each moment I've had thus far as a caregiver defines my character. I am proud of who I am and what I do!

For those of us who know, the work that's done for a higher purpose, because we feel compelled by a force that's greater than the ego and self-fulfillment, is the most valuble experience that life has to offer.

You are very wise.

Be well,

Dana

I think we have several however, one always seems to be a little more "defining"...That one for me was viewing my first autopsy. I watched frozen not in fear but amazement...There on the table was a corpse horribly mutilated. And the coroner was placing all internal organs in a 30 gallon black trash bag in a waste basket which was placed beside the table on the floor. I looked at the corpse, I looked at the organs and finally at the black trash bag. A peacefulness came over me and God showed me that everything we think, feel and experience was with him and not in that bag...

When I was married, divorced, inducted into a nursing honors society, and the day a dying six year old asked me to teach her about everything everywhere before she left this world.
