most christians take offense believing that their god's name is god and that you should show reverence when speaking it . however, the christian's god's name is jehovah so when you say omg you're not technically breaking a commandment (taking lord's name in vain)
in todays vernacular omg usually means youve heard something surprising or are showing mock surprise but it probably originated when holy men declared "my god" to address their god and sinners mocked them - insultingly.
so your teacher was right to bring to your attention to be aware of what you are saying and not just say it because everyone else says it. next time that you feel yourself getting ready to say omg stop yourself and think what am i really trying to say? and come up with something creative - something that you REALLY feel!

Depends on who you're asking. The people who wants God's name taken out of money and the "I pledge allegiance" recital and for the very religious probably would be insulted...why? because 1) some people are insulted by the word God particularly the atheist 2) yeah some people (the religious) consider using His name out of anger a sin (more than it is really an insult).
I think that there are so many controversies in this crazy, cynical and very sensitive world that uttering anything is offensive. Ever heard of the cliche that silence is golden? This is why politicians need like a zillion body guards because people want to shoot them for opening their mouth. Can't please them all...that's the whole point!!

Well, your teacher is a good example of why most Americans can't read or write. It is not an insult. I despise that expression for so many reasons, but it is only reflective of how we mimic an expression endlessly. Did the kid string it out like... oooooh my god!? I hate it when people do that, mostly women. Women copy what others say.

Why would it be an Insult. Thomas was a doubter in the Bible. Said he not believe Jesus rose from the grave until his felt the wounds. When he touch the wound in Jesus' side Thomas said; "My Lord and My God"! He just left out the Oh!

It depends on the way it was said. If it was said in a demeaning way, yes it was an insult to god. If it was said in reverence---No.
