Imitation is a type of learning wherein one acquires a behavior through observation, retaining of the information and practice. It is also known as Modelling.
An example of it is a child wearing her mom's high heels and bringing a clutch with her around the house as she imitates her mom.
Imitation is normal but after imitating, one should also learn to make the new found behavior unique.

They say imitation is the highest form of flattery. I would say it's not a bad thing if you imitate something postive (a mime is a terrible thing to waste")- Mel Brooks, "Robin Hood, Men in Tights" I just wanted to lighten the mood up a bit.

Imitating when you are a child is good, it is how we learn things. But once you are grown, it is better to have that figured out and be yourself and not someone else.

That's how you, as a child have been doing a lot of your learning. You see a soccar star and you copy his moves, right? Whom better to emulate? When you hear good grammer copy what you hear so as to know the proper way, etc.

Social learning is good because it means that you can learn from the mistakes and the experiences of others.
