everytime i try to install java windows closes. ive tried in mozilla and ie. I went into start->control panel->java....but it wont open java. i have xp.please help

Let me explain this very clearly. Java is a programming language and you require to install J2SDK1.5.x version or latest which you can get it from java.sun.com
You need to download the software as if your downloading any other software. To start working with java, you need not goto start -> Program Files -> Java... it is not at all required.
You just need to set the Path and CLASSPATH environment variables and starting executing programs in java... :)

enter JAVA DOWNLOAD in your web browser and many websites will come up that offer JAVA downloads
