Because the system is custom, I would assume there is actually an add-on audio card. Pop the side of the case off and look inside of the tower about equivalent to where the audio connections are on the outside of the tower.
-If there is a small box surrounded by metal or plastic that seems to be physically connected to the motherboard (part of the motherboard itself), then you have integrated audio. Now, you just need to find out what the make and model of your motherboard are and you can find the drivers on the support site.
-If there is a mid-sized acrylic wafer that is plugged into the motherboard through a PCI slot, then you have an add-on sound card. Then you could usually simply look at the card itself and find out who makes it and what the model number is. Do a search for the manufacturer and locate their support section for drivers.
Good luck.

A lot of people don't realize the power of Windows update - Open internet explorer, click Tools / Windows Update. Choose Custom - Once it detects what updates you need, if any, there is a section on the left - Hardware, Optional. See if your sound card comes up in this section - if so, check and install.

well ... u can pull the card and look on it for a model number ... sometimes the chip on it will have a manufacturer and u can get it that way to .... ive always been able to find drivers by googling whats on the card itself ... and yes if its onboard sound then google the model of motherboard ... the free edition of everest will probably give u the make and model of motherboard ...

If it's an onboard sound card you can go to the motherboard manufacturer or the PC manufacturer and get updated drivers. Do you have the owners manual?

i'm not sure if this would work... i had a problem that was just like this a long time ago... i didn't go for help from anybody, but somehow figured it out on my own...
i don't remember how i fixed the problem, but i think i tried opening up the computer case and checking out the sound card to see if it had a name on it, but im not sure if this told me the card name or not.
google sound card finder

Go to Hardware manager Click on my computer and right click on the main drive and click properties that will give you access to your hardware. Then just go to the sound card makers website to download the updated driver.

Either reinstall the driver, check and see if it is compatible with the new OS, or put the card in a different system to see if the card is still good.

There should be a brand name or serial number on the card. Find it, then go to www.driverguide.com. If that doesn't work send Bill Gates a letter-bomb to say thanks.
