I push the clutch down it doesn't come back up, what can be the problem?. My friends said it was rather 1 of 2 things, the slave cylinder or the return spring?. The fluid is Black in the slave cylinder. The car starts up when the clutch is on the floor. But cant put into Gear.. Please I hope some one knows. Thankyou Very Much!!!!

The slave cylinder is the one down by the clutch and transmission. The master cylinder is the one that is up under the hood by the dash (but not the one for the brakes. There is a good chance that the master cylinder got low on fluid and air got into the lines. Air will compress without moving the slave cylinder. Here's what to do.
1Fill the master cylinder with brake fluid. 2.loosen the bleed screw on the slave cylinder under the car.
3.Let the brake fluid run/drip down from the master cylinder through the line to the slave cylinder and out the bleed screw. (catch it in a jar or dish, so there is no mess, but don't re-use it).
4. keep adding more brake fluid to the master cylinder until all the old fluid and air has been flushed out and replaced.
5. Then tighten the bleed screw.
6. Tighten the top back on the master cylinder and try the clutch. Hopefully it will be good. Check the level of fluid in the master cylinder every couple of days . If the situation repeats itself, you may need new rubbers in the master of slave or both. That might be a job for a mechanic.

PS. If you need to move the car , you can put it in low gear and then start the engine. When the engine starts, the car will be rolling and will not stop unless you stall it or shut the ignition off. Don't try this unless there is a lot of empty space in front of you

I'm going to compete with dodge man...because he's an excellent guy...but I know the answer to your problem...I'ts a clutch master cylinder or a slave cylinder. If you pop the hood and check the hyraudalic fluid on the clutch master and notice that is empty or the fluid has leaked all over the firewall it is the master...order it and replace with a couple of bolts..fill it with fluid and you probably will be okay. If it is the slave cylinder..more than likely it will be on the tranmission somewhere and you will have to replace it....and bleed the line...by pumping the clutch and adding fluid. ON the slave you will replace the slave cylinder and add fluid to the master...and then pump the clutch pedal.......
eventually all the air from the lines....will come out and he will quit adding dot 2-3 this could take an hour or two.............

The o-ring in the slave clyinder is worn allowing fluid to pass by the piston keeping you from building the pressure needed to disengage the clutch. Replace the slave cylinder..... not an expensive repair.

i own a repair shop and its either the slave cylinder out on it or the master cylinder for the clutch that has went out,i have repaired a lot of those before, but that's whats causing this to happen, your best bet is to replace both of them at once, i usually put both cylinders on at the same time it saves time having to do it about a week later, good luck i hope this helps.
