The Maya calendar is coming to an end because they ran out of room and was it not coincidental that the calendar would end with the sun at the center of the Milky Way Galaxy an event that only occurs once every 25000-26000 years.

Seriously, it went for more than 8 hundred years past the destruction of their civilization. If their civilization had continued, they probably would have hired someone to take the calendar even further into the future.

as this might be true,
the theory that the world ending in 2012 might be true as well
as well as the mayans extincted and could not finish the calendar.
the possibilites are endless, since we do not have enough info from them in accordance to their calendar.
