A white carnation with the red specks on it is called a Mamie Eisenhower after President Dwight David Eisenhower's wife. She is the person who cross bred the white and red and ended up with speckles.
That's what my Grandmother told me.

Texas bluebonnet...
The bluebonnet, a name common to several North American species of Lupinus, is the state flower of Texas. They typically grow about 0.3 m (1 ft) tall. The name is possibly derived from the shape of the petals of the flower and their resemblance to the bonnets worn by pioneer women to shield themselves from the sun. It may instead be derived from the Scottish term Bluebonnet, for the traditional blue coloured version of the Tam o'shanter hat.
Lupinus texensis is almost exclusively blue in the wild. A random genetic mutation does occasionally create an albino white bluebonnet naturally. Texas A&M University researchers were successful in breeding red and white strains, creating a Texas state flag in bluebonnets for the 1986 Texas Sesquicentennial. Further research led to a deep maroon strain, the university's official color.

Pennyroyal, They grow high in the sierra's above 7000ft. They have a small white flower and the stems smell like mint when crushed, I rub them on my exposed skin and it acts like a mosquito repellant. Pretty neat stuff.

When a Dragon Arum is in full bloom it smells like a corpse decaying. We planted them and did not know about the odor. We dug them up and had them hauled away. Everyone was getting sick.

The magnolia. It is a beautiful white flower, but if you merely touch it, the place you touch turns brown within a few hours.
