Sit down with your mom/dad one day and explain the situation to them WITHOUT sounding like a brat or whining. Just say something like

"I was really hoping for that MP3, but I don't understand why (brothers name) got one. Is there anything I can do to help pay for some of it?"

I think thats unfair too. I am 13 & my brother is 14. Last year for my b-day i asked for a new computer screen (it was the OLD kind, with the fat back. & my brother already had a nice flat screen. My dad said no or some bull. Then a few days later my brother stays home from school & goes to Fries with my dad and guess what he gets him? A 26 INCH FLAT WIDE SCREEN!!!!! I didnt think I could get any more upset. And it was MY birthday!!!!! But I got his old one. Oh well, it was lame but I'm over it. BEST OF LUCK!!!!!

I am assuming that your brother did not get it for a birthday or anything.
I am a parent, so I will let you in a bit on how your parents may be thinking. I would agree that if it was not for a special thing, this is not real fair. They may think that at 11 you may not take care of it as well as your brother. One of those things. Anyway, if you really want one, and want to show your parents that you are not just a punk kid, but responsible for your age, blow them away by earning some money and buy one yourself(with their permission). Trust me, that will get some attention.

DON'T ACT JEALOUS!!!!!!!! If your parents see that you are happy for your older bro and you act like a "grown up" about it, they might see that you are getting older and they might think about it and think that you are old enough to have an mp3 player ant that you will be thankful for it and that you'll take "care" of it! Good luck and I hope that it works out for you!

yes its fair get over it your too young to appreciate it anyways Im 21 and I still listen to a cd player and my sister got and wrecked 3 cars before i got my first one and im the youngest, it could be much worse so don't complain to others about mundane material items that have nothing to do with experiencing life, good luck you'll realize soon enough the whole world isn't fair

i didnt get anything at the age of 11.. your brother is older than you and has probably been waiting for that longer...once youre 14 then maybe you'll get one too, but id say that your parents are pretty fair...

sooooooooo know what you mean. i'm eleven and my sister is fifteen so basicly the same thing. it seems like all the time she gets stuff better than i do. i don't think it's fair but that's one of the main lessons we have to be tought while growing up, that the world isn't fair. hope this helps!

i know how you feel, but you parents maybe think you should be older for it, i got my first cellphone when i was 13, (I'm now 14) and my 8 year old sister is asking my mom for one, but my mother obviously knows she is to young to have one, and she will not have one until she is the same age as i was, so maybe your parents will give you one when they think you are old enough :-)
