If your pet is an herbivore or omnivore, sure. It will provide some proteins, but is used for fish more as a source of fiber. Also, this is a good fresh source of B vitamins - some of the Bs degrade in a few months in processed fish food (and probably other processed pet foods as well).

If your pet is a carnivore, it may not show much interest in veggies.

Squash is one of the vegetables that is a great addition to a dogs diet. Squash provides extra fiber and nutrients. It can be feed in chunks or pureed depending on what texture your dog prefers. A simple treat I make for my dogs during the summer is to take equal parts of cooked squash or pumpkin and vanilla yogurt, mix, and freeze in an ice cube tray. They love it!

Like any change in a pet's diet, do not feed too much at once so the dog's system can adjust to the new food item. Squash should not be used as a dogs main source of food, but as an additive.

If your dog likes veggies, you can also try baby carrots or frozen green beans as a crunchy snack. Some fruits/veggies to avoid with dogs include onion and grapes.

You have a pet squash?

Sorry... couldn't resist.

It depends on what pet you're talking about feeding the squash to. Whatever you are feeding, squash is not a source of protein, so the answer to that part of your question is no. Also, it does not have any known toxic buildup in any animal that I'm aware of, so it won't kill them, but it won't have any significant nutritional value for dogs and cats. I have, however fed my parrots zucchini without any ill effects many times
