The CDRW would indicate that it is a CD burner (the RW means burner). Since there is not R or RW attached to the DVD portion, it would appear to only be a DVD player, not a burner.

Toshiba Samsung Storage Technology ...What computer do you have... what compones did it come with ? If its used, and no paper work,, did you get burning software ? Go throught the steps as if you are going to burn some data to the disk you should see an option to select either a CD (700 megs) or DVD (4.7 GIG) options. This is the easiers way.. if not just go to control panel / system/ and look it there. Or system information would also tell you as well. Or just try sending some data using a DVD and if it is not able to write to DVD it will tell you something like there is not enought room.

You cannot burn blu-ray discs with a DVD-burner. However you can burn DVD's with a Blu Ray burner and read DVD's with a blu-ray player or burner.

No, its a DVD ROM, which means it only plays DVD's....
DVD ROM/CD-RW.....it will only burn a cd.....
