I just read an article about that in April's American Baby Magazine. They basically said that it's not that big of a deal, especially if she has hit other developmental milestones on time. She'll get there eventually, and may actually skip crawling altogether and go straight to walking.

I read in one of my baby books or magazines that it is not unheard of for a baby to never crawl before walking. Especially now that babies spend less time on their stomachs. My daughter took her time crawling and really only did so for a month or so before she was using furniture to cruise rooms. I also learned that there are different styles of crawling, not just the traditional hands and knees. There is a baby at my daughter's daycare who army crawls. Anyway, 8 months is still pretty young to get too worried. To really ease your mind, ask your doctor. Good luck!

My grandson is the same age 8 months and he hasnt crawled yet. He will try to pull up though so Im sure we are just looking at a "baby thing" some babies progress at different rates and at their own speeds normally. Dont worry too much. I really think its normal and I am a worrying type grandmother and Im really not worried about this.

Good luck

Hmm. Can she bear weight on her legs? Will she stand with assistance? Can she sit up on her own? Can she do baby push up- to try and crawl? IS she babbling? Does she cry some? If she isn't doing these things with good sturdiness you should let your pediatrician know asap. She can begin to recieve EARLy Intervention. It helps children who are delayed not be delayed. My son went through it and he is jsut as typical as all his same aged peers now and because of it.
8 months and not crawling is a bit worrisome. If everything is fine they will tell you but is there is a delay the Early intervention specialists will come to your house and help you to help her. You will not be alone and theya re the most compassionate people.
Good luck!

Don't worry my son was 10 days off 10 months when he finally decided to crawl and then he didn't walk till 14 + 1/2 months, she will crawl when she is ready. My son is now almost three and quite advanced for his age!!!!

Honestly, it's probably nothing to worry about. She may just have a more laid back personality and isn't interested in crawling yet. Some babies never crawl -- it isn't really even one of the reliable developmental markers.

I know it's hard, but try not to worry about it. Chances are your child is perfectly fine.

Relax, some babies crawl later near 9-10 months, and some babies go straight into standing and walking. So, your child may not like the feel of her knees on the floor, she may decide to totally skip it.

I have 3 kids, my daughter NEVER crawled, she went straight to pulling herself up and walking and my son crawled at 6-7 months i know you will hear it everywhere but its so true, all kids develop differently, i couldnt even really compare mine to each other they were so different, dont stress about it, she will be mobile soon enough and then watch out !!!!

If its really bugging you try to take a favorite toy, food, binky, etc, and hold it in front of her to give her incentive, Good Luck !!

nothing. if your doctor isn't concerned about her physical abiltiy to crawl, i wouldn't worry. Baby's all develope differently. My son did the army crawl for severeal months before he actually crawled. He was nine months. He did not walk until about 13 1/2months.

Don't fret. My son didn't start or attempt crawling until 9 months. Just make sure she gets plenty of tummy time and place toys a little out of reach.
