While the classic dates are 1789 through 1799 one must always realize that nothing in history as significant as the French Revolution is completely enclosed by a ten year span. One could well argue that the rising of the people to topple the nobility was longer in foment than just from 1789, although that is when the powder keg and the attack on the Bastille took place (July 14). And, as we well know, the repercussions of the killings and executions lasted after the formal revolution was concluded. It was a bloody time and it most certainly did not end too soon.
