"Life is Beautiful" (La Vita e Bella)

The movie has everything. I don't want to give too much away because I really believe that everyone should get to see it. It is a poignant narrative about the strength and courage of the human condition and a man in one of the worst situations imagineable who is doing everything he can for his wife and child's survival.

You will laugh at the comedic acting of director Roberto Benigni, and you will cry as the story progresses to an unforgettable conclusion. It is in Italian with subtitles, but I don't even think about the distraction of reading as the story keeps me enthralled every time I watch it over and over again.

I guess I like these stories of strength in adversity, because my second favorite movie is "Shawshank Redemption."

Like days in ones life, there's great ones and horrible ones and everything inbetween! Watching a movie or experiencing one, an individual has the chance to share a glimps of another persons dream, vision, thoughts etc. Specific types of movies tend to "feel" better or are advantageous in some way, much like meeting a new person. Others are quite the opposite. LOL

This probably isn't the type of answer you were looking for or expecting.... But I'm just like that! I don't see how or why your question would relate to this particular topic, "philosophy"? So I tried to give an answer that would be.

A more straight forward answer is: Ones which make you think a little, no particular one "favorite".

You have to break movies down into catagories, you can't just pick one movie, so I will answer like this:

Comedy: Caddy Shack, Animal House, & Ferris Buller's Day Off

Horror flicks: Jaws, Steven King's "It" and "The Vampire Lestat"

Action/Adventure: Braveheart, Enter the Dragon, 300

Westerns: Tombstone, The Cowboys and any Clint Eastwood Western

Full legnth animation: Fern Gully (you have to be real secure in your manhood to admit that one.), Who Framed Roger Rabbit and Space Jam

Chick Flicks: I am Sam, Bridge to Terabithia, and any Reese Witherspoon movie

Guy Flicks: The Terminator, The Quiet Man, and any Rocky movie

The why is easy, because each is a classic in it's own right.

My all time favorite was a documentary called "When We Were Kings"

Titanic

First ever movie to make me cry and, the first time i watched it, i kept thinking about it night and day for two months. The plot, though hard to believe that it could happen, was great and it showed the discrimination between the rich and the poor during those times. The actors? Admirable. Really, really good acting. That was the first time i fell in love with Leonardo Di Caprio

Hotel Rwanda.
Why? Because it tells a true story that depicts the full spectrum of thoughts and deeds by human beings: the most heinous and the most admirable. It also shows what can happen when the wealthy nations of the world turn their backs on people in need.

The Matrix - It is probably one of if not the most mentally deep movies ever made, the most visually stunning movies every made, and probably the best put together film in a long long time.

The Sound of Music because it shows the indomitable human spirit over tragedies and disappointments of human life and emerge in triumph and newness . I also like the scenery of the Austrian homeland and the music is timeless and harmonic.

History of the World Part 1 because Mel Brooks is an absolute genius and that is his best movie. If you haven't seen it then you must see it because it is absolutely hilarious.
