I have 2 tiger barbs for a 5 gallon tank. The heater is set at 72F, the filter is going, the air stone is on, and I put in some stuff called Easy Balance with nitraban. I used jugged spring water to fill it. Anything I forgot or any advice? I want a bigger tank when I can afford it. The fish have been floating in the bag inside the tank for about 20 minutes. When can I put them on in the water?

Yes, release them after they have floated about 30 minutes. I like to add some water from the tank into the bag after 30 minutes and let them float another 10, but you don't really have to do that. Netting them out as the first answer says is a very, very good idea. It's something you should always do.

Advice: Don't use bottled water, use your tap water if at all possible. To be honest it's probably better for the fish in the long run and it's certainly way cheaper.

You do need to read up on cycling an aquarium so you know what to expect over the next few weeks. You will have to monitor the water and make plenty of water changes until the tank cycles. Its not hard, but you need to know what to watch for and how to check it out.

I would use just a regular dechlorinator from now on personally. You don't really need the Easy Balance.

Feed your fish daily, once or twice a day, but only as much as they will eat, be careful not to over feed. If there is still food in the tank after 5 minutes or so, then you put in a bit too much so feed a little less the next time. TI's important for the fishes health not to have extra food in the tank, tht will foul the water very quickly.

Best of luck to you and welcome to the hobby!

You can put them in the water in about 2 or 3 weeks.

You cannot set up a tank and directly throw fish in there...there are some additives that will help add bacteria and will supposedly stop a cycle from ever starting. But from what i have seen those are unreliable and may just hold it off for a couple weeks.

Read up on aquarium cycling.

leave it for 10 more minutes or until you think the temp.is the same. with your net , net your fish out cause there could be diseases or bad bacteria in the water in the bag.also, feed them about 7 hours after they are in the tank to give them time to relive from the stress.

oh no

ok well first, you should have more tigers, second you should have a bigger tank, 3rd you shouldnt add chemicals exept water conditioner, 4th you didnt cycle, 5th the tank needs to be warmer

my advice...return them, cycle your tank, get a betta or a few guppys
