You can make a density column out of ordinary house-hold materials. use kayro syrup, water, vegetable oil, a piece of cork or wood, a piece of metal, and other things you may think of. Practice with the liquids to see how they separate when they are mixed. See what solids you can find that float in one liquid and sink in another. Once you have the order from the heaviest (high density) to lightest (low density) you can add food coloring to the liquids to make them show up better. Carefully pour in the heaviest then medium then lightest. Pour slowly down the side of the container so the layers don't have much chance to mix. Add the solid materials at the right time to give your column an added dimension.
