This question has been asked a few times in the "Religion and Spirituality" section (I don't know if you've been there, but it's a very strange and not-altogether-pleasant place). Generally, there have been two answers given to this question, to whit:
1) No, a "gay Christian" is a contradiction in terms, and
2) All Christians are sinners, but true Christians must try to put their homosexual sin behind them.

I want to ask this question in the LGBT section to see if any different answers emerge here. I am primarily interested in the views of LGBT-identifying people of any or no religious affiliation. Others, of course, are welcome to offer their opinion (and I'm sure I couldn't stop you if I tried).

Of course you can. It's not between you and anyone else but God. No one else can come between you two, no matter what a book says or pastors or Rome says. Talk to God and feel the Love. Too many people worry about the Wrath of God and they wholly forget about the infinite Love of God which replaced that darned wrath when Jesus came down and walked. (okay so Paul said a lot of things but Jesus said NOTHING about homosexuality) Feel the Love of God and free yourself again. Blessings, my son.

Coming from someone of no religion...

According to sites like the one below...

http://www.gaychristian.net/

Yes you can.

As for the two answers that are commonly brought up...

1. How would a gay Christian by a contradiction but not any other types of sins?

2. True, but this should also apply to all other sins.

So they pretty much have loopholes in the answers that I quickly pointed out. They seem so focus on being against homosexuality and yet not countless other sins in the Bible. Would they kick out a Christian wearing a tattoo the same way they would kick out a gay Christian?

Yep! It's possible. I'm living proof. Understand that my sexuality is just one part of me. Nothing can get in the way of the love God has for us. People try to rate sins, saying that homosexuality is an 'abomination' when the truth is that all sins are abominations and disgusting to God. That said, we all need to look at our own lives and improve ourselves. When ever you question if a homosexual, and adulterer, a liar, a cheat, a murderer, an anything can go to heaven, remember that God hates the sin, not the sinner.

Like any sin in the Bible, it is immoral to pursue, but that doesn't mean that there is no sin..which is the primary purpose of forgiveness. In reference to Sodom and Gemorrah, the city was destroyed for the fallen nature of the entire city, homosexual practice there was used in a much different way then it is today. Mainly, men would rape other men to dominate them and push them away from the city, as well as molest children. Unlike today, where most relationships are loving and commited and not primarily based on the hateful practices of the ancient city.

Yes you can be Christian and be gay. In spite of what the common belief is, we are all creations of God. We were made as he chose us to be.

There is a very narrow minded opinion in some Christian groups a persons sexuality is sinful . NOT TRUE. Being a child of God full of kindness, compassion, acceptance, tolerance and embracing diversity is what it is truly about.

I see so many people use their religion as a thinly veiled reason to IMPOSE their agenda of hate on others. if you truly love god then you love ALL his creations.

I see so many people think they have the right to judge others. This is for god not man to do. Being a decent person is what matters.

Is a gay nurse tending to the ill in a hospital any less of a human being? If your in trouble do you care if a gay police officer comes to your aid? There are many fine upstanding people in the gay community.

For too long people have pushed their agenda of division and exclusion rather than incorporate the philosophy of embracing that which is different and loving unconditionally.

Shame on them, they give Christians a bad name and you create an environment where people turn away from religion.

As a person who is both Gay and a Reverend I find intolerence something that turns my stomach. In this day and age we should be past this. Equality is not just a word, it is a right.

Hello. I am not gay and don't pretend to understand the problems you face.
My interpretation of the Bible is that participating in gay sexual experiences is a sin. (MY INTERPRETATION, that does not mean I am the authority) There are many other sins that people commit but for some reason they think they are not as bad as being gay. I don't believe that. Sin is sin and we all fall short and sin. I believe that each person's life is between them and God. I don't have the wisdom to judge people's sin.
No matter what sins we commit I think we should stay in a relationship with God. Don't let people move you away from God because they answer no to your question. It's not up to them. As I said before it's between you and God.

The bible can be interpreted in many ways. There are many denominations and different types of churches with different beliefs. So yes you can be both a Christian and be gay. There is no definite definition of a "Christian". All definition is defined by people. You should define your own definition of what a Christian is. Maybe you can define Christian as someone who appreciates the philosophy of Jesus, like having a love for all mankind, non-violence, and forgiveness for all.

You can most definitely be gay. If god didn't want you to be gay, he would never make you gay. Gays are born that way and it's wrong of humans to go around insulting them, because we are all born with feelings and they may be different than others' but we have no right to bash them.

And why would you want to be a christian? If christians don't accept you, then don't accept them. You can have your own religion and praise god and have your own spirituality and I guarantee, whatever god you believe in will love you for who you are. Gay has nothing to do with it. How many christians have sex before marriage? A lot. How many priests have become child molestors? A lot. How many times do you hear about religious males in general being child molestors and rapists? A LOT!!! Go ahead and give me a few thumbs down but I'm speaking the truth.

Well a number of churches (primarily Anglican) in my city don't seem to have a problem with those who identify themselves as LGBT (they have a little rainbow flag on their doors signalling that EVERYONE is welcome) and honestly (although I'm Catholic and straight) neither do I. In my opinion the question "Can you be both a Christian and gay?" is a non-question...Of course you can!

My opinion here(what else). Christianity and being gay are intrisically incompatible, at least if one wants to be , mentally healthy that is. Christianity is an overbearing and mentally demeaning religion that requires the negation of self identity in favor of a cookie cutter identitiy vetted by the church. Being gay falls outside the perameters of what it means to be a functioning christiian.
