Barack Obama accused Bush of not respecting the constitution. Responding to Obama's comments, Dan Ronayne, a spokesman for the Republican National Committee, said, "Senator Obama needs to understand that at this level words matter and he will be scrutinized."

What are they trying to do, frighten him into submission?
Obama should tell them, "Bring it on".

to Inrealit: In reality Barack Obama is a democrat and a constitutional lawyer. Do you know more about it than he does?

Obama is right, George Bush has trashed the very document that he swore to uphold, and if Mr. Ronayne wants to further the conversation I am sure that Obama will oblige. I am proud that I live in a time when I see a man stand up for this most important of all documents in the United States.

Can you imagine Mr. Obama's surprise at having a stand to keeping the Constitution intact, instead of rewording it to fit a specific presidents needs of the moment?

I would argue that it's not the picture of submission the GOP wants, it's the look of total dedication to the document they fear.

Most Democrats have no clue about what the Constitution says or what the words mean.

The Constitution grants only a few powers to the federal government and leaves all other rights to the states. The Democrats, and to be fair many liberal Republicans, believe the federal government has powers to do whatever it wants.

There are distinct powers given to the Legislative branch of government, Judicial branch and Executive branch.

This should be something that elementary school children learn, although I don't think the failing "Big Education" public school system teaches much history or government any more.

Bush's comment thet the constitution is "just a piece of paper" speaks volumes...words do matter but the words in the constistution don't matter to Bush.

I scrutinzed Ronayne words, and they are just empty rhetoric.

"I was a constitutional law professor, which means unlike the current president I actually respect the Constitution,"

That is out of the article you used as a link.

So, I guess only people who were constitutional law professors respect the constitution. That is a pretty arrogant attitude, in my opinion.

I guess Clinton, Kennedy, Roosevelt, and Lincoln didn't respect the constitution because the weren't constitutional law professors.

I don't like president Bush however he follows the constitution and no one can accuse him of doing otherwise. He has a host of constitutional lawyers at the White House and they advise him constantly. He does not make a move without their approval. He is dumb, but not that dumb. His main problem is that he does not share much of what he knows (which isn't much) and what he does with the American people. He is a lousy actor and comes off grim, annoyed and disgruntled.

Yes, Obama better watch it because after firing all those attorneys, they will be hiring more who are closest cloned to Gonzo. Which reminds me, what is meant that they "serve for the pleasure of the president'?

The abuse of power from Bush co. is amazing. America is under attack, but not from terrorists, it's a war from within.
