If I were you I would be looking for a new employer.
You are allowed (uk) 5 minutes for every hour worked, and also a 30 minute lunch, this is on an eith hour shift, so you should be getting 30 minutes lunch and 25 minutes split for 2 breaks.
Your employer should not be asking/telling you to eat in the back of the shop, when there is a canteen. Its the employers responsibilty to ensure you have somewhere, to purchase and eat food stuffs, does not have to be cooked meals, can be sandwiches. but he does habe to provide you with a suitable place to eat. So my question to your employer is Why provide a canteen and then stop me from using it?

I believe the Federal law says you are entitled to a 15 minute break for every 4 hours that you work which would mean that you get 15 minute break for a 7 hr shift. Most companies give you an hour because most normal business hours are 8-5 which is 9 hours plus an unpaid hour for lunch.

It is law that if you work more than 6 hrs at a strtch you are entitled to a 20 min break. If you are a young worker ie: 15-18 then you must only work for 4 hrs then have a 30 minute break.
The employer must give you a contract within 2 months from the date you started the employment.

It is all up to the company that you work for on how many breaks are allowed, I live in Utah and one company worked 10 hour shifts, 35 minute lunch and one15 minute break, we had to stay an extra 15 minutes to make up for it though.In this state the only rights as an employee you have is the one on the back of the application stating that you have right to quit if you want.

In British union agreement, 15 mins is the correct payed, break amount.
Anyone allowed more, have the break UNPAID!
But they are breaking health and safety regulations by not supplying you with a hygienic area to consume your food.

this is very wrong, if you work for a five hour shift then you are entitled to a 15 min break, if you work for seven hours you are entitled to a 15 min break for morning tea and half an hour for lunch, or just a 45 min break for lunch, get something like this in writing from a solicitor and show it to your boss and tell him that if he does not follow this you will take his company to a tribunal court, then watch him pee in his pants
