They are rough. I have had one lick me before. You can test the theory by going to a meat market and purchasing one. It sounds very disgusting to many people, but some consider cow tongue a delicacy.

I've felt a giraffe tongue. It was long and purple and slimy.
Since they have similar diets, I would guess that cows have tongues that are like giraffes'.
I'd imagine also, that if they did have a rough tongue, they would pick up a lot of unwanted dirt while grazing.
So, smooth and slippery.

yes.... they use it to help break up fiber that they envetually reguratate.. they can digest food like grass becuase they r ruminats meaning they have 4 stomachs
