ha ha .. use each number only once --> 3,8,3,8 is misleading

3*8 = 24

Well let's see, useful things are 3*8 = 6*4 =24, 16+8=24
3?8?3?8 = 24

Here is a way, if you are able to use sqrt, then:
sqrt(3*8*3*8) = 24

As other people point, out, if you use 3,8 *once* you get 3*8=24.

I don't see how it can be done using 3,8 twice - addition, subtraction and division are no use. (Note to Joshhh:3 * 8 / 3 * 8 = 64 NOT 24)

I think you need to be also able to use sqrt, then:
sqrt(3*8*3*8) = 24 [POSSIBLE SOLUTION]

Or if you can also manufacture an extra 1, either of:
(3-8)*(3-8) - 1 =24
(3+8)*3 -8 - 1= 24

One way to make a 1 out of nothing is: 0! = 1

3 * 8 / 3 * 8 = 24

3*8=24/3=8*3=24

I can get close:

(3^3)+8-8 = 27
(3^3)-(8/8) = 26
(8-3)*(8-3) = 25
(3*3)+8+8 = 25
(3*(8+3))-8 = 25
3*(8-3)+8 = 23
((8*8)+3)/3 = 22.3
8+8+3+3 = 22

Here are the only solutions to 24 I can find:

sqrt(8*8*3*3) = 24
(8*3!) / (8*3) = 24
(8-3)! / (8-3) = 24

24 = INT(8*8/3 + 3) (means integer portion)

I could only get 24.33333

(8*8/3) +3=24.33333

I guess you could always round it off :)
