My step-grandfather died in december. The will was never read.My step-father recieved some money that had drawen interest and was in his name only. There are four kids and one lived in the house, one in a trailer on the land, one in Illinois, and us (we moved three times). My dad would go and work and wouldn't be feed or offered a drink and when it was lunch time they would eat in front of him.We have been very very poor since like forever. No car or anything. With the money we bought two cars and my dad got some new clothes.Simple stuff that we needed. The family is threatening us to get the money back anyway possible.Supposebly the money was to pay for the son who lived at home.If it was for him then wouldn't it be in his name? The family is cheating him out of what is rightfully his.He is the underdog who is treated like crap and never gets credit for the work he done for them.I'm 16 and this is ruining my parents marriage.Who deserves the money? Why should they get the right to hurt my dad

First of all, I am sorry for your loss. Many families have these issues tear them apart after the loss of a family member and thats too bad.
If there was a will, why was it never read. It should have gone through probate. The money should go to whoever your step-grandfather intended it to go. It was his money and his wishes should be repected. regardless of what any member of the family *thinks* is "fair" The will is the instrument that conveys his wishes.
In the absence of a will, the law outlines who is the benificiary.

The Will is never "read" like on TV. If he left everything to his son, then there is no one else entitled to anything. It isn't about who "deserves" it, it is about who it was willed to.

Tough luck for those not mentioned in the Will.

Also, if there was no Will, the money would go to his wife and if he didn't have a wife to his surviving children. No one else would have been entitled to a single thing.

Inheritance money belongs to whoever the owner chooses to leave it to. The will should have been read and the money given out as directed.
