Was born and raised in Fullerton CA which is in Orange County and like what was said above, it used to be a great place to live but especially in the last 15 years it has gotten really really bad. There's no such thing as rush hour anymore, the traffic is a constant from 5:15 am to about 9:45 pm. Here's a little factoid to let ya know how bad CA is getting: There are more native Californians moving out of the state than people moving in! I got smart and moved to the midwest about 18 months ago and have never been more relaxed and happy. The people are genuine (like in Texas) and not plasticene like in so Cal. It's all the cult of fashion and image out there nowadays. What you see on TV is only the smallest part of the OC.....that IS what Laguna Beach (where the show is based) is like though. Insanely expensive to live there so unless you are independently wealthy, the only way to see it is to drive there from inland.

Stay in Texas. Orange County used to be nice but it seems to get worse and worse every year. I live here and can't wait to move far away.
The tv show makes it look a lot nicer than it really is. There are a few cities with really rich, snobby people but you have to have loads of money to live there.
I definitely recommend you come visit for a week, see all the different cities, watch the news, and talk to the local people who live here before you make you decision.
