My cold water tank will over heat in the summer..I use plastic water bottles { throughly washed and rinsed } fill them an inch from the top and freeze. Rotate with bottles in the freezer as the ones in the tank thaw. Sure works for me.

You should keep the tank away from the fireplace. A fireplace can heat up your fish tank. Keep the tank in a nice cool place. There's an idea I have in mind if you want the tank to cool off. You need to move the tank though (Otherwise, you will notice the tank heating up again).
I was thinking that you could place a bag of ice into the tank but scoop out your fishes so they don't bite the bag. Keep some fishes in one container and so on... Then, check to see if the tank is at least 70 degrees (Do not go below 70 degrees)
Once the temperature is just right, place the fishes back into the tank.
I hope it works.

You don't say how hot the tank is or what kind of fish you have. If they are tropicals, the temp can be as high as 80 degrees F.

If they are goldfish (coldwater fish) the temp shouldn't be any higher than 65 degrees F.

Do you have a heater in the tank? If so, is it malfunctioning and heating all the time? There are thermostats on those heaters so you can adjust the temp to where you want it and sometimes they go bad and never stop heating.

Email me and I will help if you have more questions.

How hot is the tank and what fish do you keep? A chiller may be the only long term solution to keeping a stable lower temperature in the tank, but if you can add the anwsers to the above questions maybe we can come up with a better option. I'll check back in a few hours.

1.make sure your fish tank is not directly in sunlight

2.turn off the light off the fish all day and leave it on for aout only 1 hour a day

3.buy a chiller

4.try leaving the lid of the tank up so the heat can come out.

I have an idea you could try. it worked for me. Try only using one bulb to light up your fish tank, and put the tank someplace, where it doesn't get to much sunlight. the sunlight reflecting on the glass of the tank will make the water hot also.
i hope this helps.
