Other people in my dept. have complained about her but, everyone else seems to have forgotten about a lil place called "Human Resources". I went and talked to someone, but now I fear retaliation. I was also told by the Human Resources that this is not their first time hearing this about her. Apparently, the high turn over rate for that dept. must be the ones who can't deal with her moodiness. So what would you do?

I think it is good that you went to Human Resources. If it is a big company and you think you could go to another try for that. If that is not an option start looking for new opportunitiesbecause you don't need a boss that is condescending-it is bad for morale. If HR has heard about this boss and don't nothing who knows if they will do anything after you complained- I hope so but doubtful.

I suggest you muster the courage to confront your supervisor one-on-one. It's very possible that she doesn't even know that she is treating you in a way that you feel is condescending. Most supervisors want to be good supervisors. She may just need a little communication. If it's more comfortable, you could even do this in writing - either way, be professional, short and to the point.

Don't quit just yet - but I advocate that you should be open to all of your options.

Put your resume together with a very personal cover letter stating exactly what you want in a job including your salary requirements. Get the newspaper, craigslist.com, monster.com, anything with a fax number or email address and blanket send out your resume. Your phone will ring off the hook with all kinds of wonderful opportunities.

If a better opportunity arises, jump at it. If not, then you're no worse off.

Good luck!

I think that you should confront your superviser. But make sure you are being completely fair with your judgements of her. Being in charge of people can be harder than you think. And very easy to complain about when you are not in the position. Are you doing everything required of you? Ask all of these questions to yourself. And if you come to the same conclusion set up a meeting with her. Because if she is a bully this should get her to back off.

Human Resources departments rarely have firing authority in situations such as this. If this person is truly as you say she is, you may as well move on, because there will be retaliation that will either be unprovable or ignored by her boss. If she is not as you have described, you may as well move on because you will have established a reputation (true or false) for accusing another falsely.

It's really hard to work with a boss you can't stand. It makes your work quality worse then it would be if you had a good boss, who admits mistakes and is friendly. I suggest giving your two weeks, and high-tailing it out of there!

HR is not suppose to let retaliation rear it's ugly head.
-Never talk to her alone, always have a witness around
-Never throw notes or memos away that she has sent you.
-Always be polite, reguardless how she treats you.
-Never gossip, to other co-workers about her, just listen and learn, you will find out alot just listening what others have to say.
