A sell out is usually someone who does something that goes against their morals or beliefs in exchange for money, popularity, etc.

One of two things come to my mind:
Someone who acts like a friend and gets you to confide in them and then turns around and squeals on you to others.
OR
Something is on sale and all of it is sold and therefore it is called a "Sell Out"!
