y = mx+ b
We want an equation in this form
Because (0,5) is on the y axis, 5 will be the y-intercept (b) in our equation:
y = mx + 5
Now to find m we use the other piece of information. Our new line must be parallel to 4x-y=3
Let's put this into y = mx+b form:
4x-y=3
4x=3+y
4x-3=y
y=4x-3
Two parallel lines have the same slope (m), so the slope of our new line is 4, just like in the above equation. So we get:
y = 4x + 5 is our answer

the line 4x-y=3 has a slope of 4.
So theline parallel to it must also have a slope = 4
Its equation is y=4x+b
Since the line passes through (0,5), we have:
5 = 4(0) +b so b = 5
So equation is y=4x +5

first you solve for Y
y=4x-3 so your slope is 4. A parallel line has teh same slope so eliminate a and c
Then you can plug in 0 for x into the b and d equations and see what you get. Whichever one gives you 5 for y is the one.
y=4(0)-3=-3
y=4(0)+5=5
so the right equation is d

4x-y=3 is the same as y = 4x -3 which has a slope of 4
you want to pass through (0,5) so y-5 = 4( x-0)
i.e y = 4x +5

hustolem is absolutely correct also the big hint was parallel so it has to be parallel to 4x if it had asked for perpindicular it would be 1/4x it would always be a 1 over the number.
