What I consider to be a "good score" is at least a 2100/2400. That means you should get on average a 700 on each parts. 700 on each sections is really good and colleges will really like that. Seeing the scores, I suggest you take some courses, I apologize if that seems mean. Kaplan and Princeton Review are decent courses. I enrolled in a prep course and got a 2200. I hope you do well. Good Luck!

The SAT used to be a two part test, one section was verbal, the other math. Each section was worth 800 points.

Then there was some pressure and the college board expanded the test to be three parts, writing, reading and math. So the total score became 2400.

Unless there has been a change that I don't know about the minimum score is 200 points per section, so your total score can range from 600 to 2400.

An average score is about 1400. A good score would be about 1800.

Your scores indicate that you were not given a good educational foundation. My advice would be to look for a two year college that doesn't turn anyone away and that offers remedial courses. Another option would be to check out test prep books from your local library and read through them. You could start out with the high school SSAT book, then advance to a PSAT book and finally work through an SAT book.

Education is power in the United States. Therefore, it is very important that you make a commitment to yourself to make up for the deficiencies that your educational institutions created in you.

For me, any score above 2000 is a descent score. It was 1600 before, like 2 years ago, but collegeboard added the writing section, increasing the score to 2400. I am not trying to be offensive, but your score is not that good, considering 500/800 for each section is average. I suggest you take some practice tests, and study the tips to get a good score. Recommended books: Barron's 2400: Aiming for the perfect score, Barron's SAT 23rd edition, Official SAT Study Guid, Princeton Review 11 SAT Practice Tests.
Good Luck!

they were out of 1600 but then they changed it because of the writing part...a 1700 would be a good score, maybe goin a lil bit higher... anything below a 1500 isnt that special, but colleges dont take the SAT as much as people say they do..if u feel like u didnt do good take the act, most colleges accept that (and even thought im still trying to figure out the answer to which ones easier, many people have said the ACT is easier...)

Yes, your scores are out of 2400. 800 on each section. The person above was right, you need at least 600 on EACH section. You barely got 600 total. You need to do a lot better.

Usually, about a 600 is considered good and above 700 excellent on each.
