I cant install ac97 audio drivers?

I had to re-install my os, and after that the sound wasnt working, Ihave tried installing the drivers by downloading them and by unistalling the device and letting windows pick it up as new hardware and install it automatically, neither work - what can i do???

First you need to properly identify the sound card (whether standalone or part of the mainboard).

If the drivers you downloaded don not work you may rest assured that they are not the correct drivers.

Click START
Click Control Panel
Click on System
Click on Hardware
Click on Device Manager
Click on the + by Sound,video,game Contollers

*IF* you see any Yellow & Black ! point or Red X REMOVEE them

Shutdown your computer, NOT RESTART

Wait at least 2 minutes then restart computer

Windows SHOULD find and REinstall the drivers

Note: Even IF you don't see the above mentioned ! or X, just remove the sound card drivers anyway, then do the Shutdown procedure
