I've been noticing that persons with counseling and social work backgounds try to manipulate persons close to them ie. husbands, children, and relatives. Aren't their lives suppose to be about help and support instead of manipulation and control?

All helping professions are about manipulation (including doctors, nurses, physical therapists, etc.) Manipulate means to move..and the helping professions are about moving people from where they are to where they want to go. DA

Yes, I agree with you. They seem to feel they know how to run other peoples' lives. They also seem to think their view of how other people should behave, etc is the only view and the correct view. I don't know if they're trained to think and act like this or if they were like this before they got into their work.

Yes, they are on a huge ego-head trip, plus they are usually not even qualified to house train a dog much less solve anyones personal problems.

What, you don't expect us to be human? Sometimes we are just as you describe, as are members of any group or class of people you could name. Most of us, however, are trained to help people NOT be overly manipulative or to do it only when it's very important, such as keeping an adolescent from doing something that could harm her...

Them kinds of people are the next to the scum of society. They love the whole bureaucracy. In fact, without a bureaucracy, they wouldn't have a job.

Yeah. Most of them are a bunch of pissy little liberals who think that everyone should see it their way or give into them. They are always out to ruin anyone who wont give into them too.

I don't fit that stereotype. I have two degrees in social work and I let people do as they please. I have my own life to run and problems to solve.

totally--i knew a girl who took these classes and then started analizing all of us, they all think they're sigmund freud.

Many of them do that. It feeds their ego. Let them know you are aware of what they are doing and don't let them do it to you.
