DVD+R is a dvd disc that allows multiple layers for one disc where as DVD-R only allows one layer. Multi layer DVD+R can allow extra capacity per disc than DVD-R which is why DVD+R discs cost more.

DVD+R is twice as fast at burning than DVD-R as well

Most modern DVD burners support both formats, but it depends on the age of the burner. Mine is 7 months old and supports both. If you are unsure, go for DVD-R, but if you are feeling brave, try a DVD+R disc.

Some DVD burners support both types but if your DVD burner only supports the one type and you use the wrong ones it won't work you'll scrap the disk
The only way you'll find out which is the correct ones is to read the documentation that came with your DVD burner sometimes it's printed on the front of the DVD burner if not you could try trial and error as a last resort

It might tell you in Device Manager.

Right click My Computer, Manage, Device Manager, and look at the info on the DVD drive.

Many new drives support both. Mine only supports -R so +R disks are useless.
