Well, going through a bunch of crap with the boyfriend (haven't spoken to him in three weeks now) and I've found new friends to occupy my time but they all seem to be working right now (lol... doesn't it figure!)

So, basically I'm unemployed right now and left here with not too much to do, and no one to occupy my time.

Got any small, simple suggestions of things I can do just to make me feel better and less lonely?

When you get down, what small things do you do to brighten your day?

Uh, did I say that I was just sitting here feeling sorry for myself? Because I'm not.

Being lonely sucks. But, you can do some of the following to help you feel better...

* arts and crafts
* shopping
* cooking
* reading
* meeting people
* going to a spa or salon every once in a while.

And of course, you could always get a pet. They kill loneliness dead.

Peace and Love,
Athena. :)

If you feel lonely then the best thing to do in order to get rid of that feeling is to bring some activity into your life.

There are days when I'm alone at home and the boredom level gets way too high. I usually just play with my cats, or tidy up things around the house. At the end of the day after cleaning up stuff and redecorating, I feel that I have actually accomplished something. Plus while you're working around the house you're so caught up in redecorating that you won't have time to remember feeling lonely. Just set goals for yourself and then try to accomplish them. The key is to get yourself distracted.

The feelings associated with loneliness feed on themselves – the more lonely you feel, the harder it is to take steps to break out of loneliness. However, feeling lonely is a phase and does not have to be a constant way of being. As with changing any patterns of behaviour, it may take effort and commitment to begin to move out of feeling lonely.

Breaking the cycle of loneliness requires finding its cause, then identifying any existing dysfunctional ways of dealing with it (hiding away, drinking alcohol, sleeping). The next recommended steps usually include identifying the settings and conditions under which one feels willing to communicate with others, and finally encouragement to take the 'risk' of contacting new people or former acquaintances.

It should be remembered that feeling lonely is a common human emotion experienced by everyone at times (and therefore is not a defect). Intimate friendships take time to develop, and sometimes it is useful to help deal with the loneliness by sharing your experiences with someone else.

It is worst if you are alone at home. Don't stay at home, go out see people. Go, have a walk or something like that. Doesn't matter what you do, just get some people around you.
It even helped me sometimes if I just went to the railway station sat down and just watched foreign people.
However people are different so you should know what makes you feel better :)

make a list of all the things you enjoy doing, whether it's reading, going for walks, gardening, shopping (you can window shop), etc ... then try to do something different every day, for as long as you can stand it.

the best thing to probably do is just excercise. keep yourself moving. especially if you can take a walk or go for a jog outside since the weather is nice now in most places right now. enjoy the scenery & the weather & good health.

I like to window shop. Sometimes I go to the coffee shop and just sit and read the paper or a magazine. I don't always feel like leaving the house, but somehow staying in-doors always makes me feel worse. When I force myself to go for a walk or go to the gym I always feel better afterwards.

i completely understand where youre coming from... if u can get a pet that would help, i have a cat and he brightens every single day! if youre not woking...maybe join a club, something that interests you..or do volunteer work (i volunteer at an animal hospital) or maybe even a part time job to meet NEW friends :)

Go to a local library. Many of them have free events that you can attend. You can find books to read on subjects you enjoy and you just might meet people with similar interests as you

Go to your library and borrow a bunch of Disney classics, like:
The Lion King (my favorite)
Brother Bear (trust me you will love it, I think it's Disney's most magical and thrilling movie ever!)
The Little Mermaid (and its sequel, Return to the Sea)
Aladdin
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs
The Aristocats
and more! I have seen all of those and I just LOVE them.
