When the air gets smoggy then they will issue a "Spare the Air Day". You can't predict more than a day in advance whether the air will be smoggy enough to issue a warning.

And considering all of the problems that the free rides caused last year they might not even do it again.

They don't really give advanced notice. It's based on air pollution at the time. If anything they will say it on the 11pm news the night before or on the morning news that day.

If they give any advance announcement it's like late the night before. Maybe KCBS would announce it. I've never known til I showed up at the station.
