yesterday, my friend and i were talking and she told me that attempted suicide is illegal and i was just wondering if she was right..because that seems a little odd to me

suicide is the only crime that cannot be punished if you successfully commit it. you will usually be committed if you try to kill yourself for your own protection

If someone were to commit suicide it's the same as murdering someone, only it's yourself. If it's not successful it would be treated as attempted murder. However, people who tried to kill themselves are usually considered mentally ill, and are usually sentenced to time in a mental facility.

In some states...suicide and attempted suicide is illegeal.
Attempted suicide is prosecuted in those states to prevent suicide...can't prosecute a dead person.

I believe it is only illegal to help someone commit suicide. But most religions probably would say that the act is a sin.

In all states in the US, that is true. People who try to commit suicide are deemed to be mentally ill. No one is ever charged. Our society looks to help those people.

yes it is illegal, if someone kills themself obviously they can't be arrested and facecriminal charges. But iff they attempt to and failed they will most likely go to a mental home where they can hopefully be helped. I'm sure no oneactually gos to jail for that though becuase that's only going to make them more ancious to kill themselves, and it will help no one.

Yes it is, Suicide is murder, and attempted suicide is attempted murder.
Thankfully it is rarely enforced.

Yes it is...penalties vary from state to state. But most states only have the person commited for treatment.

She is correct. Suicide is illegal also. It seems a little stupid to me though, if your dead, how do they punish you?????
