...and lo and behold...absolutely no namecalling and nastiness! I realize that I will be bashed for this question and comment, but I am truly curious as to why the politics section seems to bring out the worst in people and demonstrates the most intollerance.

Did you ever hear the old expression: "Don't argue religion or politics?" It is good advice.
People make outrageous statements because they are anonymous. Ask a wacko to post his name and address and see what happens.

I can't disagree with you.

But I have to wonder, do the other sections have the benefit of the notorious spammer...Skip, Skippy, Nancy, Sgt BMF, Crypto Jew Girl, Ben R, Patriotic Smack, Brenda, Ginger, Lori, Jen, BurningBush, *, etc., etc...and similar motivated posters?

Most of the posts that I see here are designed to insult others and get a reaction out of them. That is why YA politics is long on partisan and self-serving rhetoric...and short on facts and meaningful debate.

It's not the only one - you just got lucky! They fight like cats & dogs in "Religion & Spirituality" - weird, isn't it? You'd think the holier-than-thou would be holier to each other! You can also catch some good ones in Polls & Surveys! Just wait till later on tonight!

because the left cannot stomach the fact that Bush is President and will stoop to anything to make him seem inferior, at least in their own minds
