how can any rational human being consider what's going on in Iraq spreading democracy? Why do they have to lie so much? They should just come clean and say why they really send our troops to war and to die unnecessarily . Bush should just admit that the war in Iraq is just part of a much larger plan for U.S. nationalistic supremacy.

The government keeps lying to us because our elected officials are letting them get away with it.

This crap about making a democracy out of Iraq was just bull.. and Bush knows it ans so does everyone else. It was all about getting Saddam and getting oil.. nothing else. Anyone who believes differently is just a bush bot, too lazy to think for themselves.

There are so many who want to believe that this President couldn't possibly be in the wrong when it comes to Iraq. They are not staunch Republicans, they are not brazen flag wavers, heck, most don't vote.

In the same way that they "know" the sun will rise each morning, they "know" that a United States President will act presidential, and eventually, all will end for the better.

This line of thinking doesn't require any thought, work, or worry on their part, so all they have to do is slap on a Support Our Troops ribbon on the 'ol mini van, and go on with their lives.

The Bush White House counted on this complicity, and was correct in doing so for six years. Only after the '06 elections did the sleeping "American Public" giant begin to stir.

Admitting anything is new to the ones who need to say it, and also to the ones who need to hear it. It just isn't going to happen with the speed that many would like to see.

You might have asked the same question during the American Revolution, a seven-year conflict that spread misery through the 13 colonies. Deomcracy is a laudable goal, but ethnic tensions in other "Old World" countries, going back thousands of years, may not make it tenable outside of Western Europe. Then again, Western European monarchists didn't think that people had the right or ability to rule their own lives... there was only one way to see whether Democracy could take root in Arab cultures in the Middle East, and it looks like the answer is "no." The administration's mistake was in not being ready for "no" to be a possibility. They went in with good intentions (see: mass graves filled by Hussein), but not fully prepared. As far as U.S. nationalistic plans... a lot of the U.S.'s actions since 1945 have been fueled by Nazi and Communist expansion. The only way to keep the U.S. from becoming an isolated pocket of self-determination in the face of aggressively expanding nationalistic ideologies was to spread democratic ideals. Dictators who want to expand, expand, expand, will never leave the pages of history. The only way to counter them is by thwarting them, and earlier is better than later. What, the U.S. should look forward to using nukes again to defend itself?

I hear ya brother. I'm sure the majority of us, regardless of affiliation, may have backed this insane conquest if Bush would have just spelled it out in realisms rather than this pack of lies.

"Citizens of America, as the Supreme Decider of our National Interest, I have devised a scheme to get rid of Saddam Hussein and secure Oil interests for the United States."

We may have went along with a decree like that--provided it had legal standing and moral techniques. What we got is any number of outright falsehoods, incredulous justifications, and an education on how the Corporate Multinational's have perverted our own Democracy. Gee thanks--Mr. Bush.

It's complete BS, and I suspect that many of the people who still believe in the excuse that we are "spreading democracy" are just too appalled by the idea that their government lies to them to accept the reality: The US is there for oil.

There are people in this world that want you dead because you do not pray to Allah. As much as you care not to believe, they do have the means AND the willingness to harm you. The people that buy into this are ignorant and raised to hate us. I do agree that they will never have the capacity to accept democracy and that is why we need to destroy them.

People in Europe didn't believe that Hitler would ever attempt an invasion of Europe. How many lives were lost there you tard?

I disagree completely with all of your unfounded opinions. You made up the claim of spreading democracy. The goal was to allow the people of Iraq and Afghanistan the right to self-determination by elections. I think that is a good thing. The problem is muslims are killing muslims, indiscriminately. The murderers are the ones to blame.

Sgt G., we need smart people like you in this country. You should form a think tank and and advice our government politically and militarily. Who knows, EU and maybe even the UN might come knocking on your door too. =))

For the slow ones out there, ever heard of sarcasm?

Yeah, you would think so, but our government seems to revel in stating blatant B.S. to it's people.

What is amazing is to see how cowed Americans are. They permit themselves to be run rough shod over by their own government.
