they go throw growth spurts... it is normal. The part I hated was cluster feeding. Where she ate every 10-20 mintues.. that was bad! It does slow down, dont' worry

What do you call eating like crazy? Your 3 week old should be eating about 31/2 to 4 oz. every 4 hours. If she is really hungry all the time it might be that she just need to suck and not eat. They do that some times, it's easy to think they are hungry, but if she is taking the all of what you are feeding her and not throwing it up then she very well could be going through a growth spurt. I've never heard of them doing this at 3 weeks old. Try giving her/him a pacifier and see if that will hold her/him off. If not it really won't hurt to add cereal to the bottle at about 6 weeks old.

I've had 7 kids and I can't remember any of them doing that. However, my 10lb baby did eat alot. Congratulation and good luck

I'm going through the same thing right now. My 3 1/2 week old actually nursed for 2 hours straight a couple times when he was 2 weeks old. Then he would be hungry 20 minutes later because his food had already mostly digested. It's really frustrating especially when you are hungry yourself or you need to clean but it only lasts a few days.

It's okay if she wants to eat more than normal... She probably IS going through a growth spurt and she'll slow it back down eventually. Also, most babies are so much cuter when they have a little chub on them!! :) But, it depends on how much she's overeating. If you feed her every three hours, then just give her a little bit less than you would if you were feeding her every 5 or 6 hours. Just portion it out.

I used to get worried when my first born would sleep for hours on end and was hard to wake. But she was just growing, sometimes you could really notice the difference. Your baby will probably eat loads for a couple of days, then sleep almost solidly for a whole day and not eat much. Both my kids used to do that, and you do worry that their not eating enough, or there eating too much, or there not gonna sleep at night cos they've slept so much through the day!

Are you breat of bottle feeding? Some babies aren't satisfied with formula feed. I had to change my eldest daughters milk to a thicker formula for hungrier babies because she always seemed to be starving. But always consult your helathcare provider before radically changing a babies diet!

They will tell you not to do this, but if you can give your child a small amount of cereal in the formula each night that will help alot. Only start with rice though. The barley and oatmeal will cause too much gas at that age. Make sure that the formula is still very runny but that there is a little bit of baby cereal in there too. Women have been doing this for generations, but doctors today wil tell you not to. I guess because they worry about overfeeding, but I have never seen that happen.

My son did that at about 2 weeks i was breast feeding him and it got to the point where he was eating so much that i couldn't produce enough milk for him. What i did was i pumped as much as i could and mixed it with formula. After 4 weeks i couldn't keep up and was forced to just feed him formula... he is now 2 months and 2 weeks an he eats four 8 oz bottles, sometimes he has 38 oz. I haven't fed him cereal. though i will discuss whatever i do with his doc before i do anything.

I know so many moms who gave up because of the need to CONSTANTLY nurse. My son was the same way and I have more pride in the fact that I went through that stage when so many other moms didnt!! It was hard for the first two months and then it was cake!! Saves you a lot of $$ too!! Keep feeding when she needs and it will slow down soon enough. AND GREAT JOB breastfeeding It's so wonderful for her!!
