Pope John Paul II was buried in 2005 following a funeral ceremony at the Vatican attended by 300,000 people in St Peter's Square - including presidents, prime ministers and royalty -- and another 700,000 crowded into surrounding streets.
Press reports said it was the biggest funeral in recorded history.

I think it depends on how you see attends if it was in person then when the Pope died they said it was the biggest turn out for a funeral ever cant remember the sum.
If it is combine television and attending Princess Diane would come a close second to the Pope.

Well, the very FIRST funeral only had two attendees - Adam and Eve...when Abel was murdered by Cain and sent into exile by God.....
Well, in more recent times...How about Princess Di and/or Elvis...President Reagan....or any of the British monarchs who
have died while still on the throne....or JFK...or Winston Churchill....
I'm guessing here.....
So can you believe that this year will mark the tenth annivers-ery of Princess Diana's tragic death in Paris...Still hard to be-lieve in a way.... =(

I'm not sure, but President Ronald Reagan's sure had a lot of people there. I also bet Elvis Presley's funeral was attended by many and also President Jack Kennedy's.
