Astrology and Astronomy are two different things...
They are as real as you want them to be...in other words some people believe all the horoscopes they read, others will take it all with a pinch of salt, and lots more will think it all bunkum...
I'm a Sagittarian, supposed to be sporty....joke is I have never jumped a hurdle or ridden a horse!!

Since I've been studying astrology since I was 12, I find it really funny that people read their horoscopes in Mags and Newspapers.. Can you imagine. 1 million cancers are all going to get into car accidents? 1 million Sagittarius's are going to get bad news? Or that all those Pisces singles will find their true love on the same day!!! Wouldn't that make the news.. truth is, that horoscopes should only be cast knowing the persons birth time. Sure Mercury in Retrograde makes life miserable, but it makes it miserable for all of us, but not in the same way.
Get a personalized horoscope, stop reading the garbage that's out there.

I got this from Eric Idle's (of Monty Python fame) book "Around the States in Eighty Days"
He wrote on day 51,
"It's my wife's birthday. I have now been with her more than half her life. Poor thing. She must be a saint. But a Scorpio. So watch it. According to that ridiculous bollocks called Astrology — a pseudo nonsensical science if ever there was one — Aries and Scorpios never get along. Well 26 years says crap. If people want to go on believing that the whole world is divided into twelve, based on astronomical observations that are two thousand years out of date, then that's up to them. The constellations are now no longer overhead in the same place as they are supposed to be and everyone knows the lowest peg on a newspaper and the first job they give to newcomers is writing the astrology column. Still people persist in believing in this nonsense despite all evidence, which shows mankind's urge to believe in something, no matter what, is very strong, and makes it easy for all those horrible men with bad hair in bad suits on TV to make their millions."

bit pointless asking the question really cos those that don't believe it will tell you its rubbish (why they post in the horoscope section all the time i don't know)
and those that do believe it will tell you it is real
i always say to put it to the test, have a chart drawn up and see how accurate it is to you, then you will know yourself if it is real
You are More than a Sun Sign
The relative positions of all the bodies in our Solar System to each other and their positions within the 12 Zodiac Signs, flavour your basic character that is initially set by the Ruling Planet.
An Astrologer draws your individual Birth Chart, by placing at the exact position in the Zodiac, at the time of your birth - the Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune & Pluto. Some Astrologers will also take into account a variety of Asteroids.
I can not overemphasize how this combination of influences, positions and inter-relationships, shift what a professional Astrologer considers not only for your Character at time of birth but how the chart of past, present & future moments influence your behaviour and reactions to circumstance, what the public think is predicting the future. This is in fact more like forecasting the weather but does have the advantage of totally predictable planetry positions.
Your 'Stars' or Sun Sign column as popular in magazines and web sites, use ONLY the Suns basic position in the Zodiac, it can be uncannily close at times but is only the first of many considerations when it comes to understanding you, your motives, how you react in different situations and of great importance to you - how the predictable positions of planets will influence your future. The interpretation of that comes down to the technical skills and intuitive abilities of the Astrologer.

History of Astrology
Astrology has a long and robust history. This part of the free astrology lesson covers the thousands of years that mankind has studied astrology.
Mankind has studied the passage of stars and given names to constellations since they could speak and write. The first records we have of astrology date back to the Sumerians, in 4,000 BC. The astrologers at the time paid attention to the moon and it's course, tracking eclipses and lunar events.
By the time of the Babylonians, and 1,000 BC, the planets and stars had been added to the tracking systems. When a baby was born, its charts would be documented to help foretell what the child would face in life.
Babylonians moved the art along to pay attention to stars and planets as well as the moon. By the year 1000BC they were creating charts at the birth of infants to help foretell what the child would be like.
The Assyrians, in 700BC, gave the constellations the names we use today. The set down many of the rules that have survived over 2,000 years to modern day society. The Greeks and Romans further researched and studied the rules.
It was when Christianity began to gain power that astrology was first put down as dangerous. Christians felt that any way of determining one's fate other than trusting in God was evil. They worked to wipe out all native traditions, including fertility festivals, harvest festivals and astrology foretelling.
As Christianity once again became more open and welcoming in the 1900s, allowing people to appreciate their native traditions as well as believe in an all mighty God, more and more people looked into astrology as a tradition with a long history of success.
Love & Blessings

All I know is that I share every single trait with my horoscope sign (Aquarius), but one of my best friends is a Cancer who should be an Pisces and another one is an Aquarius who should be a Scorpio. So I don't know :)

Horoscopes in a magazine or newspaper are generalized for each zodiac sign. Don't read the ones in newspapers and take them for face value. If you want a real horoscope done, then get a chart done. And yes, astrology is very real

Like muffin said, it can be as real as you want it to be, I personally don't read the newspaper horoscopes, but I"ve looked into my own horoscope through other books & most of it seems to be pretty true, although it can be coincidence ;)

I personally, belive in horoscopes, because usually, they're rite and it's like some one knows what's going in my life but not everybody belives in it, it depends on the stars and conctellations n stuff, but once again, I beleive in them so I would say yeah they are true/real

I think they are, yeah. But I think you can also make it out to what you want to be as well. Funny enough, my horoscopes are usually a day behind for me. Or maybe I'm just a day behind. Either way, it's funny.
