I do not know what is happening in our nation, lately. I asked a question earlier and cannot believe that someone answered that it was the UK's problem.

Also, there seems to be discussion that it would be okay to take hostages if they were in Irani waters.

I cannot relate at any level to these people. And I find them scary. Case in point, the answerer above me. Incredible!

Easy - it's not our fight. Iran didn't attack us or take American prisoners. The best place for us is on the sidelines or to offer support, but only under a UN mandate.

We Americans tend to take everything too personally. Sometimes the best thing to do is let others work out their disagreements.

Iraq wasn't our fight either. Action against Iraq should have been done through the UN. Instead, we chose to exceed the UN mandate. If it had been done through the UN, it would have been done with near universal support, as it was in 1991. Instead, we have isolated ourselves from the world community instead of unifying it, like GHW Bush did.

"Going in and occupying Iraq, thus unilaterally exceeding the United Nations' mandate, would have destroyed the precedent of international response to aggression that we hoped to establish. Had we gone the invasion route, the United States could conceivably still be an occupying power in a bitterly hostile land. It would have been a dramatically different — and perhaps barren — outcome." - George HW Bush from A World Transformed

Under the circumstances, I believe that there should have been a statement along the lines of the Senate's denouncement of the act. This makes it appear as if Congress really doesn't care one way or the other. The hostages taken are our friends and allies and I believe that if the situation were reversed, the same would be expected from G.B.

That said, if they do speak out against the act, then they've (congress) have weakened their position on our presence in the Middle East. Silence from congress more or less says, "We weren't creative enough to come up with a statement that would also benefit us, so we remain silent."

Ma'am,

I mean this in the nicest possible way, but are you receiving transmissions from outer space? It is GB, not the US. If you'd done a little homework, you would know that Iraq captured some British citizens about two years ago, and after negotiations remarkably similar to those taking place now, were released after three days. Why would you want us to go in with guns blazing? Oh, wait, you don't have any children in the military. Never mind.

Because it is a British problem and they have not formally asked for our help. You don't know what the Brits are doing to resolve it behind the scenes. In the meantime, anything the US does could actually hamper their efforts to resolve this matter and put the captives in even more danger.

It's a pity for you that world events, diplomacy and covert operations are too complicated for you to wrap your little brain around.

My guess is that the US is not interfering in order to give Great Britain a chance to work first through Diplomatic channels. The US does not want to do anything to make things worse.

Once Great Britain figures out what it wants to do should diplomacy fail, then the United States, at least Bush, will be ready to help. Congress will probably be on Iran's side.

I wanted to add that because they are so loud about us leaving Iraq, it has emboldened Iran to take these hostages. The Democrats are emboldening every terrorist group that exists now.

God help us all. In the mean time buy some guns, stock up on ammo and emergency supplies. Learning the art of camouflage is a good idea to. Its more then just wearing camo fatigues.

You haven't heard enough from them..
The Iran hostages will come home shortly, much to the annoyance of George Bush and friends. Nobody wants them to come to harm except the White House

But it actually follows their pattern. They are loud about anything that may have a negative effect on the Bush admin,

war in Iraq...
Attorney firings...

but they are quiet as mouses on anything that contradicts their views or hurts them

Iran's actions show how dangerous they are and that Bush was right about the axis of evil...
Sandy Berger stealing classified documents, stuffing them down his pants, hiding them in a construction site, and then destroying them to protect...

You people were duped by the Dems into believing that they would actually DO ANYTHING. Now you've learned you lesson.

No Iraq withdrawl,
No end to the culture of corruption (Jefferson, Feinstein, Pork, etc...)

In other words, Dems are just Repubs without the courage or ideas.
