I plan a trip to Lake Michigan (Petoskey) for this summer, but I would like to know if I will be able to swim in the lake... Is it safe? Not too poluted?
Well, if you also know some interesting things to do around, please tell me!
Thank you !!

up there it's absolutely fine. I was even further down the coast and it was absolutely beautiful. I might think about it before i dive in next to chicago......but Lake michigan is beautiful, and not as cold as superior! The other great lakes besides those two and huron get more poluted due to being on the east coast and bigger cities by them and smaller overall. I've even swam in the Mississippi (in Minnesota) but that's ten times more questionalble than lake michigan!

Things to do though (i went on my honey moon there) if you go by travers city there are some wineries up the lelland pinnesula that was really neat, and there are a ton of light houses to check out as well! I would also venture up to Mackinac Island/Makinaw City.....that was a cool place to visit as well....If you go by Charlovoix there is the Fisherman Island State Park. Which I have not been there, but to other state parks along the Western coast and they are beautiful! and if you can find some sand dunes up there that would be fun as well!

enjoy

Lol yes its very safe. I live and grew up in Michigan and have been to Petoskey at least 10 times as long as the area around there, and the water is very beautiful and clean. I can't swim in ocean now cause I'm so used to the pure Lake Michigan water. Have fun on your trip though (Be sure to make it into the city and other cities around there - there's some really nice shops)

It's as safe to swim in as the ocean... and it doesn't even have sharks! I swam in it for years when I lived a 10 minute walk away as a teenager, and aside of a third eye on my back and some scales, I'm fine!

Just kidding. It is safe. That said, it is COLD until pretty late in the summer. Many people swim in it anyway, but it is definitely not for everyone. I loved it.
