I have traveled to a number of former colonies that's golden age happened when they were colonies. I meet a man in Africa that told me that even through he had fought for independence he now wished the return of the colony.
When his country was a colony they had work, they had schools and went to schools for free, they had free medical, they had laws that were obeyed, a low crime rate, they had roads, rail roads, clean cities, and a future.
Now they have none of that. I will always remember that
conversation.

I tend to think that initial colonization was a mistake because it was just one civilization putting another civilization into subjection. However, after the system was in place for sometimes several hundred years, the inhabitants of the colony would get used to certain things. Not that they would be happy with the total subjection, but perhaps the colonizers brought positive things to the country such as a stable environment, jobs, and protection from other invaders. Then after the colonizers left some of this stability might have been lost because the colonizers were providing all the infrastructure for the colonies government. At first things may not be what they were, and after many, many years of freedom things will most likely improve due to the former colony feeling things out for themselves and developing there own infrastructure. The former satellite countries of the Soviet Union are going through this period right now. I have visited a few of these countries, and some are more progressed than others. Hopefully, things will turn out well for them.

I think that "de-colonazation" was a good idea, but the way they did it was an unbelievable mistake. For example, sitting down in front of a map and drawing lines all over it and calling the spaces countries is not diplomacy. Had they looked at the ethnic groups living in the area and based their decisions on that, I don't think it would have been such a mistake.

One of the early countries to be "de-colonized" was the US, but I assume you meant something more specific . Even if you are referring to post WWII decolonization there are many countries that are doing fairly well. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Decolonization for list of ex-colonies. As a general rule the longer the country has been free of foreign domination the better off it is.

No- both problems were caused by colonization. If they had chosen to leave people alone and "uncivilized", we wouldn't be dealing with all this mess now.
You can't say decolonozation is a bigger mistake because it is part of colonization. Why can't white christians keep their noses out of everyone's business?

Stupid question dear. Would you like to be ruled by some distant country and stripped of all your rights? I should think not. Of course, you have not been in that situation "yet"
