Do you think this will discourage people from reporting anything suspicious now?

MINNEAPOLIS - Six Muslim men removed from a plane last fall after being accused of suspicious behavior are suing not only the airline but the passengers who complained — a move some fear could discourage travelers from speaking up when they see something unusual.

The civil rights lawsuit, filed earlier this month, has so alarmed some lawyers that they are offering to defend the unnamed "John Doe" passengers free of charge. They say it is vital that the flying public be able to report suspicious behavior without fear of being dragged into court.

This lawsuit will be dismissed as frivolous.

I'm sure the ACLU is leading the charge on the lawsuit. #1 in my opinion those imans were testing out the airlines security to see what hey could get away with to possibly plan another terrorist attack. #2 this lawsuit is absolutely ridiculous and for the sake of national security should not be permitted to continue. Those imans were acting very suspiciously and needed to be reported. Those passengers absolutely did the right thing. If any imans or muslims decide to act like that on a plane I'm on I WILL defend this country!!

I think you mean Imams.... anyway, I don't think it will discourage people and any suspicious activity SHOULD be reported. That said, I don't think the muslims in question had shown that-- they were simply praying if I remember correctly. Of course, I wasn't there so I can't say for sure they did something weird. Also, if they were praying, they should have gone somewhere discrete-- like the chapel-- all airports have them.

It is ludicrious that they're suing the airline and passengers. They should understand that in this environment, ignorance and their behavior can lead to strange situations. Now, the airline should have accomodated them after realizing they did nothing wrong.

Personally, I think this is a load of crap. Passengers have the right and responsibility to report ANY behavior they view as suspicious or threatening. It is up to the pilot, flight crew, and airport security to determine if a credible threat exists to the plane, passengers, and crew. If the Imams feels like they were mistreated, sure sue the airport, the flight crew, and the airline, but passengers are not ultimately responsible for determining if someone is removed from the plane and detained for questioning or not.

The Imams were removed for suspicious behavior, whether they were up to no good or not, they obviously scared someone enough to report them. Now, they are only compounding the problem for muslims by sueing people who obviously already had some issues with muslims. This is America, get the heck out if you don't like it, but don't expect people to turn a blind eye when they see a muslim or someone who looks like one acting suspicious. It was radical islamic extremeists (muslims) who attacked this country and we have a right to defend our country and ourselves from another attack.

They, the Imams, are going to be responsible for hate crimes against muslims for pursueing this litigation. Well, them and the ACLU (America Comes Last Union)

Americans really need to stand up and say "This is my country and I have a right to defend it any way that I can."

There is a campaign that has begun based on this Imam lawsuit called the "John Doe" campaign (because the passengers were described as John Does on the report). I'll post a couple of links about it for anyone who wants to know more, but here is a sample of the statement:

Dear Muslim Terrorist Plotter/Planner/Funder/Enabler/Apologist,

You do not know me. But I am on the lookout for you. You are my enemy. And I am yours.

I am John Doe.

I am traveling on your plane. I am riding on your train. I am at your bus stop. I am on your street. I am in your subway car. I am on your lift.

I am your neighbor. I am your customer. I am your classmate. I am your boss.

I am John Doe.

I will never forget the example of the passengers of United Airlines Flight 93 who refused to sit back on 9/11 and let themselves be murdered in the name of Islam without a fight.

I will never forget the passengers and crew members who tackled al Qaeda shoe-bomber Richard Reid on American Airlines Flight 63 before he had a chance to blow up the plane over the Atlantic Ocean.

I will never forget the alertness of actor James Woods, who notified a stewardess that several Arab men sitting in his first-class cabin on an August 2001 flight were behaving strangely. The men turned out to be 9/11 hijackers on a test run.

I will act when homeland security officials ask me to “report suspicious activity.”

I will embrace my local police department’s admonition: “If you see something, say something.”

I am John Doe.

Or this one.

A Muslim woman who was told she had to remove her veil if she wanted to testify in 31st District Court in Hamtramck filed a federal lawsuit Wednesday against the judge who made the ruling.

Ginnah Muhammad filed the complaint against Judge Paul Paruk, alleging he violated her religious rights and denied her equal access to the courts.

Muhammad had gone to small claims court last October in a dispute with a car rental company when Paruk said she could not testify unless she removed her veil, the lawsuit alleges.

“If in fact, you do not wish to do it, then I cannot go forward with your case and I have to dismiss your case,” Paruk told the woman, according to a transcript attached to the complaint filed by Dearborn Heights lawyer Nabih Ayad. Muhammad refused and Paruk dismissed the case, the lawsuit alleges. Paruk did not return a phone call.

“I’m a human being and I wanted to come to court to get justice,” Muhammad said at a news conference Wednesday outside the federal courthouse in Detroit. “When I walked out, I just really felt empty, like the courts didn’t care about me.”

The Quran doesn’t explicitly require women to cover their face, but many Muslim women wear a hajib or other covering as a sign of piety and modesty.

Let them sue. Let them win. Pay them off in the islamic way. Award each plaintiff 3 goats, 2 camels, and a chicken and be done with it.

Meantime if anyone sees anything suspicious, keep reporting. The life you save may be your own.

From what I have heard the Muslims are suing an old couple for moving away from them while they bash America and Bush.

When the ACLU gets involved oooowwweeee, lets see what side they are really on. America's or bringing down America?

Just another unnecessary lawsuit and proves they need to change the laws on this type of action. A loser pay. If you file a lawsuit and lose, then you need to pay for the other side's lawyer fees.

They freakin' prayed before they got on the plane!

That's it! They didn't randomly change seats. One guy moved to an aisle seat because he was blind, another got bumped up to 1st class for his "Elite Member" passenger status. The seatbelt extender fiasco? One imam weighed nearly 300lbs and needed it! Should we boot off every fat guy, or blind person or anyone who prays before their flight?
